stuff going on!

howdy all, steve here. been pretty snowbound here in the dell this week, snowded all day yesterday, snowing now. getting some impressive snowpiles going around the driveway.been pedaling the stationary bike 1/2 hour a day and walking in the nau skydome, i did 2 laps walking around the dome yesterday, 1000 meters or about 2/3rds of a mile! it worked me pretty good, and i get lapped by old dudes and fat panting people, but one year ago it taxed me hard to roll my wheelchair the same 2 laps! i forget that i,ve come so far, but denise does all she can to encourage me and convince me i'm progressing. it's just really hard to see yourself go from the toughest person you know to the weakest physically. mentally, i'm definitely tougher now! been finally getting back to reading books again after a 1-year hiatus as after leaving rehab i just couldn't look at a book! i was reading a novel every 1-4 days in rehab. just polished off "the road" by cormac mc carthy, another cheerful novel from that guy, polished it off in one night. and just read "the kite runner" about afganistan and "the shipping news" by annie piroux which was really great. i think i'm gonna start "hocus pocus" by kurt vonnegut next, one of the few of his i have not read yet, i'm sure it will be a hoot! been building frames full-on, here is "anonymous owner's" touring commuter, and craig m. of ruidoso's mtb in the jig. i'm just waiting for a stem for my sister-in -law's bike and i'll post pics of it when completed, and i have a 29er floating around i need to sticker up. and, i have a nahbs bike at paint. also, here is goat fixing his extracycle. him and 2 buddies are riding from prudhoe bay alaska, to tierra del fuego along the spine of the continents, they just pulled off riding across the grandcanyon ticket free! for the story and lots of great pics check out www.ridingthespine.com hope ya'll like my bloggery! thanks for reading and comments, steve.

your own private idaho

went armbiking in sedona yesterday, rode private idaho/girdner/snake trail. snowy and some goop in spots made it tough going, but it was really nice to be out, got it 3.5 hours on the one-off. but, it was really sunny, short sleeve weather just 30 min. from home, where it's been below 0 at night! and, it's not all the time you get to ride in snow in the desert. the armbike actually rides river rocks and washes-especially covered with snow-better then a bike. and, check out these fired up dogs! i also caught this pic of sally catching snowballs. for her, it just doesn't get much more fun then that! thanks for reading, i've been really surprised how many people tell me they saw something cool on my blog, don't be afraid to drop in a comment once in awhile, or tell me something you want to see pics of, steve.

issues, yeah.....i got issues.

check this out! sometimes my right foot has less circulation then newspapers since the internet! and boy, it buuuuurns! it's sorta like a combination of roadrash and frostbite, and when it's like this, the little use i have in my foot and toes shuts off too. boy, spinal cord injuries definately aren't for sissies. i seriuosly wonder how i deal with all this sometimes, and how i sorta find it sickly amusing at times, although when it switches into spasm mode does really suck! and, this isn't even the leg that was shattered. sometimes i seriously wonder if i should just cut it off and get one of those cool new ones made outta carpet fiber and titanium.....at least those only lock out when you want them to, and i could even have it made the same length as the other one! wiggle your toes, stand up and stretch, be glad you can, and have a better day/attitude because of it! steve.

david k.'s bike back from spectrum powder works.

you gotta hand it to these guys, they do a damn good job! and, they should, considering that this paint job cost almost half of what the frame did! the logos are painted on in powdercoat as well, and the owner's team mascot is stenciled in all over the frame in gold, it's a flying goathead. ALMOST too nice too ride! thanks all for reading, i'm trying to keep it interesting for ya'll, steve.

finally got the kayak out for a real float, and yes, some frame shots.

yep, we finally got the boat out for a real float, and it was real fun. it's really great to do something where i just look like a normal person {o.k., well...sorta} and not like a circus performer {look! he pedals with his ARMS!!!} and, to do it with denise as well. saw almost no boats at all, but lots of ducks and grebes, tons of well-fed looking herons, and 2 bald eagles. saguero lake has great views of the four peaks wilderness, and is on the salt river. also, some close-ups of pete c.'s bike, it will be at the north american handmade bike show, as he lives right by the venue. be lookin' forward to havin' some of your tasty homebrews at the show, pete! {hint, hint....}later, thanks for reading, steve.

some pedalin' goin' on

hey, all, been a while since i last posted! been really busy, got scott m.'s 29er out the door without getting a pic of it, hopefully he'll either bring it back to build it up, or read this and send me some! it will have a phil wood flip-flop rear hub with a white industries 2-speed freewheel on either side with different gears, giving him 16-17-18-19 tooth cogs on the back and the choice of a 32 or a 34 tooth ring on the front. should be cool! and here are the final prepped pics of the bike that went to zurich. and, it's finally winter in flag, it's been snowing for 2 or 3 days, and denise and others are going out for some xc skiing. here's a pic of me spinning on the schwinn spinner, i can kick out about 1/2 hour so far! we also did a great 3 1/2 hour armbike ride around cock's comb in sedona before the storm hit, but forgot the camera, so no new armbike pics. i'll throw in a pic anyway. thanks for reading! steve.

sedona season in full swing!

yup, some snow on the ground and coooold! the other night it got down to 7* and was blowing hard! sucky! sooo, around here you make the 25 mile trek to sedona where it's warm, sunny, and the trails are a-plenty. went armbiking around courthouse butte and then ripped down "equestrian bypass". pretty hard, ledge-y, and a true testiment to how well slime works and how tough prickly pears really are. and, some pics from denise and christina's mtb ride, and a fine shot of some nice bikes! and just so you don't think i've been slackin', a pic of scott m.'s rig he plans on taking on the silk road fron istanbul to bejing, 7000 miles on the silk road! steve.
